Once again it’s a case of “now you see it, now you don’t”; we’re talking here about electric car manufacturing subsidies.
We again have a case of our government making all the correct press statements and TV announcements stating their full support for this new developing car sector but then we find there are severe restrictions on what they are saying.
Take the case of the Electric Car Corporation (ECC) who are already assembling the CitroenC1 Ev’ie at their Flitwick facility. When the ECC requested UK government assistance to expand their Bedfordshire plant their request was declined, ECC have now set up in Denmark to cope with the ever increasing demand from Europe.
In the UK there is a subsidy promised of £5000 for buyers of electric cars but as usual there are restrictions, a)the subsidy is not due to commence until 2011, b) it will be limited to company buyers only who will benefit by not paying road tax for 5 years.
Is it any wonder the UK lags behind other countries in developing and supporting new technology?
