Beware, if new proposals come into force drivers caught using mobile phones at the wheel of their cars could face increased fines and more penalty points per offence.
A new government survey due out in February is expected to show an increase in the number of offenders using a mobile while driving, this kind of behaviour alone is said to reduce the reaction time of drivers by 30% worse than driving under the influence of alcohol at the legal limit.
Today Dorset Police, in conjunction with Dorset County Council and the Fire Service are starting a “No Excuse” campaign to catch drivers whose “driving behaviour” is known to result in fatalities and serious injuries.
There will be “No Excuse” for any driver caught, this could even mean getting a fine and penalty points for changing a CD, however the Dorset Police do offer an option for “minor” offences by allowing the offender to attend a “driver awareness” course which could prevent the addition of further penalty points.
Dorset Police hope this initiative could roll out to other regions .
