Following on from lessons learnt at the first GP of this season at Bahrain, this coming weekend’s Melbourne GP will provide further tests for the cars plus an “Aussie” special.
The Melbourne track is in Albert Park on normal street roads, there are a lot of “S” bends on the circuit which means cars will be racing in close proximity to each other and the overheating of engines could again pose a real threat.
As with Bahrain the cars will carry a near full load of fuel and with so many known bumpy corners to contend with brake wear and overheating of brakes could again be a problem.
The track being in a park poses a threat that is probably unique to this GP which can come from leaves blocking air intakes.
Previously fuel and tyre stops gave the opportunity to clean out these air intakes so the car/driver who can avoid this problem and not pit stop will surely have an advantage.
