As a London cabbie for 35 years, I have a keen interest in all things automotive. I seem to remember, there was a chap, back in the early eighties who used a Hillman Imp as a taxi. Does anyone else have stories about strange vehicles that have been used as private hire vehicles?
Watching TV the other night I was reminded of my time in the Plillipines where taxis are called "Jeepneys".
As the name says the original jeepneys started life as left over jeeps bought from the US forces stationed there.
These jeepneys have been dressed up with anything chrome and shiny to make them into mobile works of art
Not only do you now have taxis but also old buses decorated the same way.
Saw an article recently which said that the "London Cabbies Assoc." (if that is their correct name)had registered a couple of Ferraris, also a couple of Lamboghinis, Rolls and Bentlys etc.as taxi cabs; its all to do with escaping payment of the congestion charge if you are a taxi.
Q. How many passengers will a Lambo be licensed to carry?
