Throughout the history of roadside speed cameras the police and local authorities have always maintained that the cameras are positioned to deter accidents and not solely for revenue purposes.
That claim has now been shot to pieces.
In the last 3 days motorists have received conflicting information from authorative sources stating that “speed camera cuts threaten lives” while opposing headlines quote “ speed cameras caused 28,000 accidents in a decade”.
Even though the UK emergency budget is not until Tuesday 22nd June the RAC motoring organisation are reporting they have seen a document which warns of increased deaths on the roads if road safety partnerships are to be scrapped because of public spending cuts.
The new spending cuts are expected to result in no new fixed speed cameras, possible reduction of existing speed camera numbers, traffic policing reduced and also civilian camera operators and speed awareness courses severely cut back.
