Warning about Stolen Car Scam

All car owners, and potential car owners, are being warned of the dangers of buying second hand cars without carrying out a thorough check of the vehicle and its documents prior to purchase.

You may not think that it could happen to you, but beware, 75,000 cars disappear from the records from within the UK every year.

“Car Cloning” as it is called is a well organized big criminal activity which provides rich rewards ; this is in complete contrast to the unknowing buyer of a cloned car, who having seen what he thinks is a bargain goes ahead and buys. When the scam comes to light it is the new buyer who suffers as he not only loses the vehicle when it is reclaimed but also all the money he invested in it as there is no way he can recover this money, not even through insurancePicture

A further danger of buying a cloned car from a criminal connection is that these people will know the address of who they have sold these dodgy cloned vehicles to and can just pop along to that address and nick the car again, yes it can happen like that; just easy, good, repeat business for them and there is absolutely no recompense for the unsuspecting buyer.

There are discussions ongoing about the introduction of a “third party” checking system whereby both buyer and seller attend an office to have the paperwork verified, this can be coupled with a vehicle examination, this is similar to a system already in use in France.

Whatever system may be introduced in the UK it needs to be one that incurs the minimum of costs, time and inconvenience.

Meanwhile car buyers in the UK can protect themselves whatever car they buy and wherever they buy it from by using any of the reputable vehicle checking companies such as Autocheck or the Automobile Association etc. to verify the vehicle and its documents, all this providing peace of mind for a very small sum in comparison to the price of a decent vehicle. Be warned.
