Hire Car Shortage Strikes – As We Reported in June

As the old saying goes, you read it here first.
At The Car Hub we gave out our first warning via a “tweet” on June 2nd. that there were existing factors which indicated that in all areas of Europe there would be a shortage of cars for hire this summer and possibly beyond.

There are now dire warnings that the situation could be so bad as to leave holidaymakers arriving at their airports without cars to continue to their destinations.

So what is the cause of the shortage, well once again you can put the blame on the recession. Since last year the holiday trade people have been reporting an upsurge in bookings for UK holidays linked with less people forecasted to go abroad; hire car firms have taken notice of this and ordered less stock for this year. For those UK holidaPicture people wishing to visit Euroland there is also the problem of poor money exchange making everything costlier there.

Reportedly the worst car hire shortage is in the biggest overseas market which is Spain. The situation has become more extreme in the last few weeks as we rain soaked UK residents have become tired (and wet) waiting for the sun to shine that last minute bookings for overseas holidays have shot up, this has meant that if you are lucky enough to find a car for hire you could end up paying double the normal price. Now, more so than ever, for those of you going last minute there is a need to book your car before going away, (you can do this within The Car Hub).

One way to possibly get around this problem is not to try and book your normal small/medium economical car , for which the demand is always heavy, but to go for something larger and less in demand.
